The United States was the host country for Arctic Science Summit Week, March 14-20, 2007 in Hanover, N.H. The summit served as a forum for international coordination, collaboration and cooperation in all areas of Arctic science. The Institute of Arctic Studies at Dartmouth College and the U.S. Army’s Cold Regions Research and Engineering Lab (CRREL) jointly hosted.

A talk on massive lakes buried miles beneath the Antarctic ice sheet and a reporter’s account of climate research at the North Pole are among the offerings at an International Polar Weekend on March 10 and 11 at New York’s American Museum of Natural History (AMNH). The family-oriented event is funded by the National Science Foundation and supported by AMNH, Columbia University's Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory and Earth Institute, Barnard College, the Explorers Club, and Wings WorldQuest.

During the week of March 5-8, the Global Learning and Observations to Benefit the Environment (GLOBE) program, a worldwide hands-on, primary and secondary school-based education and science program, will offer a Pole-to-Pole videoconference between students and scientists in Ushuaia, Argentina and Alaska and a follow up series of Web chats with students and scientists. GLOBE is funded through a cooperative agreement between NASA, the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR)and Colorado State University.
